Running can be a thoroughly enjoyable way to clear our head, increase our aerobic fitness, and get outside, but sometimes we can find it daunting to get into running, or are stuck in a rut where we find ourselves dreading pulling on our trainers.
This ebook will put some structure on your running so you can improve your 5kmtimes, while also helping you discover how enjoyable running can be.
Everyone has a “habitual running pace” that they will gravitate towards. A common mistake we see with runners in training is that they’re habitual running pace is too fast! You’d be forgiven for thinking this sounds counter-intuitive. Surely to get better at running fast, we would want to train by running faster? You’d be half right.
What tends to happen is that this habitual running pace falls somewhere above a truly low intensity, where we can build a big aerobic foundation and cover lots of distance, and below a truly high intensity, where we can build more aggressive running pace and speed mechanics. You end up working incredibly hard in the middle space between these two intensities, yet reap the benefits of neither. This can be hugely demoralizing, as you feel like you’re putting in the work but are stuck at a particular5km time or running pace.
