If you are missing a leg you don't give out about your shoelaces being undone. Agonising over the best pre-workout supplement when you haven't had a balanced meal or a decent night sleep in a few years is picking the wrong battle. Your time and energy will be in an inevitable no return cycle. Ultimately your results will all be heavily tipping towards the "shite" column. If you'd like to remove distractions and focus on the really important things in nutrition, health and fitness that will actually make you better-try a 1:1 goal setting consultation at FFS Gyms. There's a reason for this and it's not entirely your fault. The 1 percentiles or the next big thing is how most people make money nowadays. Every year a new innovation or "game changer" comes out. Think about how many ways you've been sold the same t-shirt for the last 20 years? Think about how every year runners or football boots can do something they couldn't do the year before. Think about how you see something cool on Instagram and go down a wormhole for 20 mins and never actually try it.

The same principles apply to diets and training. 6 min abs, Atkins, IIFYM, Carnivore, Paleo, Dynamic ballistic hypertrophy volume training etc, etc. There will always be something bright and shiny that takes your attention off the road. They are designed to grab your attention. To sell to your senses. Your time and more importantly your efforts will always be directed better when you focus on the big picture. If you'd like to remove distractions and focus on the really important things in nutrition, health and fitness that will actually make you better-try a 1:1 goal setting consultation at FFS Gyms. Focusing on the big things like food quality, energy balance, portions, hydration and sleep. Training hard with a simple plan that holds you accountable. Removing yourself from an unproductive environment and immersing yourself in positive ones. These are the game changers..... the 90 percentiles! Being honest and consistent in these areas will tackle a huge part of what is holding you back in your progress.

Carb timings, protein timings, intermittent fasting, should I do 12 reps or 20 reps and should I do them wearing compression leggings...etc these are the outliers! The 90 percentiles might not be as sexy or have a celebrity endorsement but they will get you where you want to be. Hard work, recovery, hydration and nourishing food. Without them, you haven't a chance. Be really honest with yourself. If you are not successful in whatever program or "journey" you are undertaking in my experiences it’s somewhere in the fundamentals where the leak of your potential is based.

When you are honest!

You might be shocked about how much carbs you are having and how little protein you are consuming. How little veg you are eating and how dehydrated you actually are. You might be surprised that you actually work for about 20 mins a week in the gym and fart about on your phone for 3 hours the rest of the time. Don’t panic.Don't be harsh on yourself! It’s all info, feedback to help you get better. If you feel you are a million miles away from this at the moment. It's ok. If you'd like to remove distractions and focus on the really important things in nutrition, health and fitness that will actually make you better-try a 1:1 goal setting consultation at FFS Gyms.

Take a breath and just focus on the next meal, the next training session or the next opportunity to get a little better and nothing else. You will see when you look back the best days in the gym, the best days in your week are going to be the ones where you’ve been honest and focused on the big things that are important. Not drowning in the detail! It isn't easy but it's liberating in that you're the master of your own destiny and it's up to you whether you sink or swim.

Simple Tips to help you not drown in the detail.

Focus on one thing at a time.

The next thing! Whether that be training, breakfast or bedtime. Focus on one thing to get better. Eg. Leave my phone in my bag and just train hard, have some vegetables with breakfast, read a book and dim the lights and go to bed 30 mins earlier.

Ask for help

If your brain melts on trying to figure out on what to eat and how to train. Ask someone for help. Either a friend, someone you respect or a professional. When it's time to take action and all you have to do is act. That's how you'll get great results. If you can have someone tell you how to do it the best way in a manner you enjoy it and look forward to it your on to a winner!

Be Honest

Saying you don't have the time. When you've made time for Netflix, Instagram, Podcasts, Scrolling, Pints, (insert anything here) you can find the time to make a meal, go for a run or go to bed. If you are honest you can find 20 mins .If you honestly can't you may need to work smarter or sacrifice one of the above but generally a bit of calendar awareness can make everything work well.

Keep it Simple

If in doubt break down whatever you are doing to it's simplest form. If it's training pick 3 exercises and perform them back to back for 30 mins.If you do not have equipment...go for a run or do body-weight circuits. If it's food. Pick a lean protein, veg and some healthy carbs. If it's water..drink some more

Consistency

If you are trying and even if it's only little efforts overtime they will all add up. These little efforts will become habits and these habits will produce long lasting results. Results that you will build on and get a little better everyday.

Action beats all.

Just doing something. Anything towards getting better..will get you better. 30 % of a 100% of your effort is much better than doing nothing.Just starting is half the battle. Focus on what you want. Work towards getting it. Don't be distracted by things that diverted your energy and just repeat. Iron out the creases and improving. Building on that progress and always keeping the big picture in mind.
