THE FFS SUMMERSLAM

Everything that happened on the great day of the FFS SummerSlam. 3 events (Golf, special classes and a big BBQ party) all had in great weather. See what the FFS community is all about.

Saturday SummerSlam Classes

When the mind and body collide in the spirit of beautiful competition there will always be soaring highs and sweaty lows but the spirit of the team will always arise. If you can have a few good stories on the gym floor the next week, all the better. All the members who took part had a great time trying to lift as much as they could with new friends, while some lamented the la missed opportunity with some bold strategies in action.

There could only be one team crowned the SummerSlam Champions and after serious work from our background data analytics team going we got there in the end.

SummerSlam Overall Team Champions -Paddy O'Meara, Sinead Brophy, Aoife, Grogan, Andrew Kane

The cross between a "tank top and metcon in a good way" showed that teamwork makes the dream work and you don't need to be the strongest person. Just get stuck in and enjoy working hard and helping out your teammates.! if you were on the fence or scared to take part don't worry there will be other chances and it's all about having a good time and having a great class experience in a special format. Keep your eyes peeled the next one is on the horizon.

SummerSlam Golf Classic

An absolute scorcher of a day, saw a big field of over 8 mixed teams battle it out on the former Irish Open championship course the Monty at Carton House. It was particularly exciting to have so many new golfers take part and in particular to have a strong female representation, which we hope to grow more and more. The playing conditions were superb and there was some excellent golf played throughout. As always confidence and a swing are fickle beasts with the format of 3 scores having to count on the 9th and 18th hole proving the difference with some sensationally wild balls off the tee when the pressure ramped on!

The winning team spearheaded by an impressive solo round from Mike South and Graeme Rodgers and superb team scores on the 9th and 18th from all brought home the victory

Graeme Rodgers put together some beautiful tee shots, lots of greens in regulation and a bounty of clutch putts, draining from downtown and every town to romp home in a sensational 43 points. to take the individual winner prize.

Ben Marshall had a day full of highs and lows off the tee. He was either exploding off the tees or launching precision missiles. He put in an absolute rocket on the 8th hole to take the longest drive coming in at over 360 yards and will be happy to tell anyone that asks.

Rory McDonnell landed a great smooth slight draw wedge to land on a six-pence to land the closest to the pin on the perilous 17th with two front bunkers and a swamp city to the rear. It was a tricky pin position that claimed more than a few on the day.

SummerSlam BBQ Party

20220806_123016

A smoky BBQ fire pit, funky house tunes and a friendly pink flamingo were the backdrops to the Summerslam party. It all started off wonderfully civilised with tales recounting the activities of the day and gentle congratulatory pats on the back but as the music got louder and the night got darker things started to escalate for all the better. The SummerSlam Champions claimed their trophy and the inaugural Summerslam hang champion received her intercontinental belt. Leeson street claimed the beer pong championship against Parnell street in a controversial fashion.

Apparently, in a Tom Brady-style fashion the beer pong balls were deflated to eliminate spin but at the time of writing an independent review has not been completed and we will reserve judgment until all the findings have been fully disclosed. Sporadic and unofficial boat races and various corn hole games seem to balance out any animosity and everyone was back to being friends before we descended to the afterparty at House. Reports got consistently vague from here on in but one member who wishes to remain anonymous said it was “a like a metcon with cocktails and some alarmingly unorthodox dance routines that I still can’t get out of my head”. I suppose you had to be there :D

The FFS community is a real living thing and we always want to build and grow on its foundation of craic, inclusivity and connectedness. Keep your eye’s peeled we have lots more fun events coming up soon and if you have any suggestions yourself or are involved in something you feel is a great fit for us just let craig@ffs.ie know.

Well done to all who took part in this year’s Summerslam. We hope everyone had a great time and we can’t wait to see you at the next community event.
