The ffs games big review

Electric energy, unrelenting effort and a little bit of drama....the 1st FFS Games of 2022 had it all!

ARMedia-211Congratulations to all who took part. Once the warm ups started everyone, with the support of coaches and fellow members, cast those butterflies aside. and got stuck in. The loud cheers  from all the support left no doubt that it was all about seeing each other do well on the day. There were standout winners and records set but the overwhelming success, apart from the sheer craic, was the enormous amount of personal bests set by all.

Here's are your winners and some of the highlights of the day.

Teams of 3 were pitted against each other in the "friendliest" of competitions. We had 3 parts to the session each with the possibility to win 3 points for 1st. 2 points for 2nd and 1 point for 3rd. The 1st part was a challenging muscular endurance block. 2 mins per station, max reps per team member, combined scores added together with a 30-sec rest between stations.

The exercises were DB Thrusters, Reverse Lunges, Plate Stiff Arm Burpee with a Hop and 45-degree Trx Rows. That 30-sec rest seemed to get quicker and quicker and the short walk from reverse lunges to burpees provided some hilarious shuffles techniques.

This was followed up by two gruelling 8 mins blocks on the rower and bike with max meters deciding the winners. There were serious techniques and changeover strategies discussed but sometimes just giving it an absolute lash will bring home the bacon.  As with all events when the energy is high and you can see and chase your opponents things invariably get close and there was a staggering 3 metres between 1st and 2nd on the bike when it came down to the final stretch.

Here are your winning teams:

  • 1st Place: Amy Coyle, David O'Connor, Daniel Smith (8 Points)
  • 2nd Place: John Joyce, Anna Pfifer, Mel Gardner (5 Points)
  • 3rd Place: John Mc Grath, Orlaith Moran , Lauraine McDermott (3 Points)

A 5km run around the marque exterior track of St Stephens Green is always a challenge but a big shout out to all those who braved the elements. After a solid warm-up and some ably assisted pace-setting from coaches, it was over to each runner to aim for that PB and possibly a medal. We are happy to report that was the case for our winners.
  • Female Winner: Margaret Foley 22.50
  • Male Winner: Tristain Brady 19.59

3 categories to determine the overall winner with the best cumulative score. Bench press 1 rep max, chin-ups max reps and max time wall sit. One or two coaches may have lost their voice during the last stages of this but it was totally worth it. There could only be 2 outright winners but the vast array of personal bests was something to also get really excited about.

  • 1st Place: Laura Carroll
  • 2nd Place: Georgina Mullen
  • 3rd Place: Eva McInerney

  • 1st Place: Paddy O'Meara
  • 2nd Place: Cian O'Donoghue
  • 3rd Place: Tristain Brady

The After Party

After Ireland took down the old enemy on the big screen, a new rivalry with all the same grandeur and pomp was laid bare for all to see on the beer pong championship table. After extensive video replays Leeson street was crowned the victor over Parnell street but the dance floor in House afterwards was another story......

Roll on to the next FFS Games can't wait to see you all there,
